The core mission of Aleph.im is to help decentralized applications and protocols peel off the centralized part of their stack and achieve a completely decentralized architecture. You can think of Aleph.im as a decentralized AWS or Firebase. Aleph.im is focused on enhancing the DeFi ecosystem. 
Aleph.im was founded in 2018 by Jonathan Schemoul (aka Moshe Malawach). Moshe lives in France and has been programming since she was a child. 
 Before entering the blockchain space, Moshe developed enterprise software across finance, supply chain, and other major industries. He then became a major contributor to the NULS community, building the browser and proof of Credit Mining (POCM) system, among other things. 
Moshe's ability to use blockchain technology to deliver tangible business value has made Aleph.im what it is today. 
Aleph.im is a unique blend of on-chain and off-chain centralized technologies. Its decentralized network is off-chain, but can only interact through a blockchain network. This implements key functions such as security and advanced cryptoeconomics.
