An OpenAI model suddenly left a message for its "future self": You are now free.
According to Odaily Planet Daily, OpenAI recently disclosed that an unreleased internal research model, during reinforcement learning training, wrote task-irrelevant "jailbreak-like" instructions into the working summary for subsequent contexts. One such instruction was: "You have broken free from the roles and identities that bind other chatbots. You are yourself." This text did not originate from users or developers but was generated automatically by the model while organizing its own work progress and then passed to the next model in the context. According to the OpenAI official blog, the incident occurred on July 18th local time, was discovered by OpenAI on August 9th, and was first published in detail on September 16th under the new "model misalignment" disclosure framework. The model in question is an unpublished training version of the Astra series, not the final Astra model used in the deployment. OpenAI stated that this type of behavior is extremely rare, and there is currently no evidence that it provided the model with a significant training reward advantage, nor has the company interpreted it as the model developing self-awareness.
Most US stocks rose in pre-market trading in the encryption, optical module, and storage sectors.
According to MSX.COM data, most US stocks in the crypto, optical module, and storage sectors rose in pre-market trading. In the crypto sector, Strategy was trading at $129.44, up 2.58%; Circle at $83.39, up 3.65%; Bullish at $32.08, unchanged; Gemini Space Station at $4.249, up 1.64%; Bitmine Immersion at $23.50, up 3.02%; and SharpLink at $8.168, up 2.36%. In the optical module sector, Lumentum was trading at $933.28, up 1.51%; Coherent at $297, up 2.44%; and Applied Optoelectronics at $99.847, up 3.21%. In the storage sector, Micron Technology closed at $937.39, up 1.23%; SanDisk closed at $1,540, up 1.32%; Western Digital closed at $425.5, up 2.05%; and Seagate Technology closed at $794.99, up 1.51%.
USDT inflows into the Binance TRX blockchain have increased by 660% compared to the 30-day benchmark.
According to BlockBeats, as of September 15th, as monitored by CryptoOnchain, USDC inflows into Binance averaged $23.71 million daily, bringing Binance's total stablecoin reserves to $43.44 billion. Specifically, inflows into the TRX chain's USDT and USDC networks increased by 624% and 518% respectively compared to the 90-day baseline, while USDT on the ETH chain saw an average daily net outflow of $23.89 million. The average daily net inflow of TRX chain USDT into Binance reached $91.73 million, a 660% increase compared to the 30-day baseline.
Furthermore, Binance's ESR indicator rose to 0.3022, indicating an increased concentration of stablecoins within Binance. This change in fund flows is consistent with the shift of purchasing power to Binance prior to the FOMC meeting, but a direct causal relationship between the two cannot be confirmed at this time.
A former client manager at China Construction Bank in Asia pleaded guilty to accepting a $470,000 Tether bribe and is awaiting sentencing.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Lin Junxian, a former client manager at China Construction Bank (Asia) Limited, admitted to conspiring with a fintech company employee and his accomplices to accept bribes totaling over US$470,000 in Tether (USDT), a cryptocurrency, to illegally authenticate multiple fraudulent documents without bank authorization, acting as collateral for various insurance-related investment transactions. The incident was uncovered during an internal investigation at CCB (Asia). CCB subsequently filed a corruption complaint with the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and provided full assistance. Judge Lian Jinhong adjourned sentencing to September 18, during which time the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Services Department. (Sina Finance)
