According to Huoxun Finance, Charles Schwab is partnering with the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Global Markets to launch binary options contracts for the S&P 500 index, allowing clients to bet on the index's performance. These contracts differ slightly from similar products on platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, but are essentially binary options: a fixed cash settlement is made if the index closes above or below the target price; otherwise, the settlement is zero. Schwab will also simultaneously launch Cboe's "Plus Zone" feature, providing partial compensation even if the prediction is correct but the target price is not precisely hit. Schwab's CEO previously criticized contracts based on sports or entertainment events for blurring investment boundaries, but stated that they would consider launching such products if market predictions become a "competitive necessity" in the brokerage industry. The contracts launched this time are limited to verifiable financial events and do not include non-financial events such as the World Cup or the Oscars.
