Following Open Standard's announcement of the launch of its new stablecoin, Open USD (OUSD), Circle's stock price fell more than 16% on Tuesday. Odaily Planet Daily reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced on Tuesday that it is soliciting public comments on the regulatory approach for "new types of ETFs," assessing whether existing fund registration and listing processes need adjustment. This review comes against the backdrop of the rapid expansion of crypto ETFs and the increasing number of applications for prediction market-related ETFs. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated that the regulator wants to hear market feedback to ensure that the U.S. ETF market can effectively serve investors while continuing to grow and innovate. Since Atkins took over as SEC chairman in April 2025, the SEC has approved several crypto ETFs other than Bitcoin and Ethereum, including products tracking assets such as SOL and DOGE. Currently, market attention is shifting to prediction market ETFs linked to political and economic outcomes. The SEC has not yet approved the listing of such funds and has postponed several related applications. Atkins previously stated that the SEC will evaluate these products in a "transparent and prudent" manner. In this comment period, the SEC inquired whether a standardized listing framework should be established for ETFs that meet certain criteria, and whether certain new types of ETFs need to register as investment companies.
