According to Odaily Planet Daily, the UK government has released its first official statistics on taxable crypto asset gains. In the 2024-25 tax year, 240 individuals declared capital gains exceeding £1 million each, totaling £717 million, accounting for more than half of the £1.38 billion declared by 17,600 individuals. HMRC stated that the 17,600 individuals declared £13.8 billion in gains from the disposal of crypto assets and £1.38 billion in taxable gains, averaging approximately £78,000 per person; about 87% were male and 13% were female. Selling, exchanging, or spending tokens, or gifting assets to others, can trigger tax obligations. HMRC issued 81,000 crypto tax letters in the past 12 months, a 25% increase from approximately 65,000, approaching the 27,714 letters issued in the 2023-24 tax year. James Murray, Financial Secretary and Chief Payment Officer at the Treasury, stated that crypto asset gains are taxable like any other income. The UK plans to adjust the tax treatment of some DeFi transactions from April 6, 2027. These lending and liquidity pool transactions typically defer capital gains tax until economic disposal occurs, potentially affecting approximately 700,000 people. Odaily Planet Daily reports that Polygon has disclosed several previously undisclosed security vulnerabilities fixed through its recent Austin and Kyoto hard forks, which could potentially impact its proof-of-stake network. The vulnerabilities involve Polygon's Bor and Heimdall clients, including denial-of-service risks, validator resource exhaustion, and flaws affecting checkpoint and milestone processing. Polygon stated that the fixes underwent private testing before being deployed to the mainnet and publicly disclosed. The most serious issue involved Heimdall, where carefully crafted transactions could force validators to perform excessive processing work, thus disrupting the network. The Austin hard fork also fixed two denial-of-service risks in Bor, which could slow down block processing or cause node crashes. Polygon stated that these vulnerabilities were not exploited on the mainnet, and the fixes were proactively completed before the vulnerability details were publicly disclosed.
