Odaily Planet Daily reports that Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan and his team recently gave a feature interview to Colossos magazine. In the interview, Jeff discussed his career prior to founding Hyperliquid in 2022. Before founding Hyperliquid, Jeff almost single-handedly ran Chameleon Trading, one of the largest anonymous trading teams in the cryptocurrency industry at the time. "Chameleon" was his nickname from a video game during his high school years. Jeff started with $10,000 in savings and achieved thousands of percent annual growth in two and a half years, becoming financially independent at the age of 27. By 2022, the Chameleon Trading team had expanded to six people. However, at the time, Jeff believed that the crypto industry had done little substantial progress after Bitcoin and Ethereum, and the two largest exchanges (Binance and Coinbase) remained centralized. He felt that Satoshi Nakamoto's original vision for Bitcoin was being buried by the industry. Therefore, amidst this industry unease and the impact of FTX's collapse, Jeff terminated Chameleon Trading and began building the decentralized exchange Hyperliquid. According to Odaiy Planet Daily, Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan and his team recently gave a feature interview to Colossos magazine. In the interview, Jeff revealed that after leaving quantitative trading giant Hudson River Trading in April 2018, he worked on Deaux, a prediction market-like project that would allow users to bet on any event with a result, such as weather, elections, or sporting events. Jeff experimented with an "off-chain matching, on-chain settlement" mechanism in the project (Jeff believes this was an idea he and co-founder Scott Wu first proposed). Funds would be stored in smart contracts controlled by code, but the user experience would remain fast and smooth, thus preserving the promise of cryptographic decentralization while avoiding its friction costs.
