Blue Origin Accepts Crypto for Space Tourism
Jeff Bezos' space exploration company, Blue Origin, has announced it now accepts cryptocurrency payments for its commercial spaceflights. The company is partnering with Shift4 Payments, a payment processing technology firm, to allow customers to book a trip to the stars using digital currencies.
The new payment option, which is available immediately for all upcoming New Shepard rocket bookings, supports a range of major cryptocurrencies and stablecoins. Customers can now use assets like bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and Solana (SOL), as well as stablecoins such as USDT and USDC. Integration with leading crypto wallets like Coinbase and MetaMask gives customers the option to connect their wallets directly for secure payment.
“Our mission has always been to revolutionize commerce by simplifying the transaction process, and we’re thrilled to now extend that vision beyond Earth,” said Taylor Lauber, CEO of Shift4. “Together with Blue Origin, we are making space accessible to explorers around the globe. This partnership will enable adventurous travelers to book the adventure of a lifetime, no matter their preferred payment method - all with a simple, frictionless experience.”
For wannabe astronauts, Blue Origin requires a deposit of $150,000 to start the booking process.
Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, recently flew with Blue Origin on its 34th flight, after winning an auction for a seat with a $28m bid.
